Day 1
Having joined the Reef Walk in Mackay, I came prepared for 10 days with others walkers. However, instead of being exposed to the Bruce Highway, as the others had been for most of the journey, since Cairns, I joined at a time of media interest, community action and rest.
From the Mackay airport, we headed to a local library, where a large display on the walk and the reef had been created by a volunteer of the Mackay Conservation Group. On the way to the library, June had a long phone interview with the local paper, the Daily Mercury, who were keen to take some photos. So in the library car park, we marched with the other three walkers and our host, flags a flying while the journalist took the shots, that appeared in the paper the next day.
Love the T-shirts – I hadn’t noticed them before – are they new? And I can’t see Rosalie in the photo taken at Mackay – is she still with the group?
Hi Jocelyn
We’ve all got shirts – they’re great. Let me know if you’d like to buy one.
I, (Rosalie) am still walking – see that skinny arm in the pale green shirt, poking up behind June.
Thanks for your interest!
I love it. May more towns visited be as welcoming and interested. So much good wishes from me to you wonderful people.
