Brolgas dancing
We’ve finally begun the long and isolated section of the Reefwalk between Sarina and Rockhampton. However it has been refreshing to have less traffic and a more natural experience. We’ve seen red-tailed black cockatoos, bush bustards, bush stone curlews, red-backed fairy wrens and brolgas dancing.
Last night we spent at Clairview Beach, where there is a narrow strip of sand then some coral and rocks, and mangroves, separating the park from the ocean. Way along the beach we came to a sign identifying the area as “Blue Rocks”. And the rocks really are blue. It was such a beautiful place.
How lucky to see the dancing Brolgas. They’re an amazing bird. Safe travelling and great job as usual. Trying to tell as many people as i can what you are doing when I’m at C4. All are very impressed and most of our overseas visitors are horrified about the possible damage to the Reef.

The bird life sounds wonderful! Is anyone making a bird list for this section? I travelled that road many times as a child in the 1960’s when it was all dirt, no bridges across the creeks – many challenges, but it was the only way in our circumstances. And Clairview Beach is such a pretty spot. I know this section will be different to walk, compared with where you’ve come from, but hope all goes well. I expect that organic food will be in short supply on this section!
It would be great to record all the birds and we’re trying. However we can’t identify everything we see. Note that I wrote about the red-rumped parrot. However the field guide don’t record them this far north. Perhaps the changing climate is changing bird distribution. Perhaps we just don’t know what we’re looking at.

We had 7 klms off Bruce Highway today walking into St.Lawrence, it will be back onto highway for a few hours tomorrow then onto the Bi centenary trail for 2 days. Yipee!
